Anger
Why am I angry all the time?
Why do small things bother me so much?
What is anger management?
Can hypnosis help me control my temper?
We all lose our temper sometimes, and often we have a good reason to do so. It’s normal to feel angry when we feel we have been treated unjustly or something is frustrating us. When our anger is disproportionate, or we find we are getting angry too quickly or too often, it may help to see a therapist to help us understand and manage our anger.
The key to controlling anger is to understand where our anger comes from. Perhaps you are thinking “my kids wind me up, I am stuck in a traffic jam and my boss gives me way too much work, I already know where my anger comes from, I just want someone to fix it”. Therapy helps you to step back a little and try and see the underlying issues driving those angry feelings. You cannot stop kids being kids, you cannot make the traffic jam go away and, (in the short term at least), you can’t swap your boss for someone more understanding. What you can do is change how you respond to those things, making you a better dad, able to deal with the traffic jam better and develop the resources to dealing with your boss in a calmer, more assertive way that makes you feel more in control and less like someone who is about to have a breakdown or a heart attack!
This is where hypnotherapy can help. I see clients who are feeling under enormous stress, letting things build up and up until they explode with anger. At first it feels good - they finally got to let the world know what was on their mind. Very often, however, the next thing that happens after that is that they suffer feelings of remorse, even shame. They regret their angry outburst and find themselves thinking “I wish I had handled that differently”.
Hypnotherapy can indeed help you to handle stress and confrontation in a more healthy way. More importantly though, is to help you to understand why you feel and react that way, so that you can fix the root cause of the problem and lead your life in a calmer way. This could lead to all kind of positive benefits, including better relationships with your loved ones as well as work colleagues. It will certainly help reduce your stress and give you a more positive outlook.
